Install Solaris From Usb

Installing the Desktop GUI package in solaris 11 in order to enable the Desktop GUI. The Solaris 11 does not come bundled with the desktop GUI by default, so you may need to install the desktop GUI package from the IPS repository.

# cfgadm -vl

# cfgadm -c disconnect usbx/y

# prtconf -D

The device node should no longer be listed. Refer to cfgadm_usb(1M). (Note: In some cases, the cfgadm disconnect will not make the devices soft hot plugged.)

On SPARC platforms power management may have powered it down. Edit the file /etc/power.conf, disable autopm, and run pmconfig or reboot.

Run prtconf -D on the command prompt and check if the device enumerated.

If you have an older SPARC machine with USB 1.x ports, possible workarounds are connecting the device to a USB 1.x port or connect a USB 1.x hub and then the device to this hub. To install Oracle Solaris without using an IPS AutoInstall server on the network, you can use Oracle Solaris media in a DVD drive. The DVD drive can be built into the server or attached to a USB port. You also can boot from an ISO image copied to a DVD disk, hard drive, or SSD.

You can install Oracle Solaris 11.3 OS on this server from an image copied to a USB flash drive. That USB image is available for download at the same location as the ISO images http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/downloads/index.html.

You also can create a persistent device alias for a device connected to a USB port. The simpler alias name remains available for future installation or boot operations.

You can boot Oracle Solaris 11.3 from drives installed in the server (hard drive, SSD, or DVD drive) or from devices connected to a USB port.

For the path to identify a USB port in a boot command, refer to the list of devices output by the show-dev OpenBoot command.
